Short of an actual field survey, a patented claim should be plotting based on the ties shown on the Mineral Survey Plat, the Mineral Survey Field Notes, and on the actual Patent document.

Quality copies of Mineral Survey Plats are not always available. Most are a century old and the originals have been lost. Copies of barely legible plats, as shown here, are actually costlier than the quality scans as shown above, due to BLM copy and shipping fees.
